Janet Cram Awards 2012 Reviews
2 October 2012
Participants review the event from 17th June at the Shaw Theatre, London
The Janet Cram Awards have never ceased to amaze me with the display of young talent within the ISTD. This year was no exception with the beautifully trained students demonstrating their incredible strength, technique and artistry. I thoroughly enjoyed the Creation Competition too and particularly loved the delightful winning piece in the Junior Section. This was danced with sensitivity and outstanding artistry. Altogether an entertaining day – thank you organisers and thank you ISTD.

When arriving for the finals of the Janet Cram Awards at the Shaw Theatre, London, I felt both privileged and nervous for the day ahead. When they announced that I was the winner of the Boys’ Award I was extremely happy because all my hard work over the last few weeks had paid off.

The classes were of a very high standard and everyone looked amazing – hair and makeup all in place and costumes beautifully turned out. I was absolutely over the moon to be awarded Runner Up in the Premier section. I loved every moment of my Janet Cram experience and I met some wonderful people along the way.

We only started taking part in the Janet Cram Awards two years ago. Both students and myself enjoyed it so much that it is now a big part of our annual events within the school. Heats all over the country enable more people to take part without the expense of having to travel too far. I always tell my students what a great experience it is to take part whether they get through to the final or not. Whatever the result, they always finish the day with a big smile on their face and ask if they can do it again next year!

It’s always exciting to go to London. I went down the day before so I was able to get to the Shaw Theatre on time. On the day of the Janet Cram Finals, even if you do not feel nervous you could still get excited butterflies. ‘Relax, smile and sock it to them’, are the words I use before competing in any competition. I felt very proud when my name was called out as Runner Up. I received a certificate, a trophy and money. I am going to buy myself something special so I have got something to keep.
