Sequence Medallist Festival 2012
2 October 2012
Michelle Lawrence reports from Sunday 17th June
On Sunday 17th June the Sequence Medallist Festival was held at West Park Leisure Centre, Long Eaton, Derbyshire.
Competitors had travelled from all over the country to take part in Classical Sequence, Modern Sequence and Latin Sequence events, as well as the Blackpool Grand Finals qualifying sections. The age ranges covered under 8s through to those over 50 so everyone had an opportunity to take part in their particular grade.
A new concept was introduced this year whereby the Blackpool qualifying events were divided into ‘Below Bronze’ and ‘Bronze and Above’ grades to give the opportunity for more competitors to qualify in each age group. This proved a very popular addition to the programme and kept the adjudicators, Jill Bush, Denise Dyer and Jackie McLean, extremely busy with a high standard of dancing seen throughout the day.
The lovely music, played by Malcolm McLean, inspired the dancers and the audience was very appreciative with lots of applause, particularly for the under 8s events to encourage these wonderful young dancers.
Our compère for the day, Terry Hunt, kept everything running smoothly, aided by the hard working scrutineer, Tony Dyer.
