Cecchetti Society Classical Ballet is delighted to announce that Richard Glasstone has been awarded an MBE
Cecchetti Society Classical Ballet is delighted to announce that Richard Glasstone has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list, for Services to Classical Ballet. An inspiring figure for decades, Richard richly deserves this honour. Others are gifted in one or other field as a teacher, choreographer, writer or lecturer but Richard’s uniqueness is that he is gifted in all these areas and has given generously to many others. His multifaceted career has spanned from being sent by Ninette de Valois to choreograph and teach the Turkish State Ballet; teaching Boys at the Royal Ballet School; writing educational dance books; examining for the ISTD and contributing to major dance journals and conferences. Richard’s loyalty to British Ballet and the Cecchetti tradition has been immense. A memorable teacher of great clarity and conviction, he also nourishes talent, is a man of the theatre and an interesting raconteur. There was immediate alacrity from Richard’s colleagues to write fine letters of support for his nomination and these were presented to Richard in July on Cecchetti Day at The Royal Ballet School, Covent Garden.
