Grand Finals
The
Ballroom and Latin American Blackpool Grand Finals, sponsored
by DanceSport International, was made even more special in
2003 by the inclusion, for the first time, of the Sequence
Medallist Grand Finals.
Spectators
were enthralled by the lovely dancing as they watched the
three dance events for Juveniles, Juniors and Adults. Of particular
interest to many was the Classical Sequence, as many spectators
and Ballroom and Latin American competitors had had no previous
experience of this discipline. It was very moving to see the
stylish Midnight Tango and the elegant Regis Waltz and Saunter
Reve so beautifully performed in the magnificent setting of
the Tower Ballroom. A contributory factor to everyone’s
enjoyment was the first class music played by Paul Fielding.

An
extremely high standard was shown in each age group. The smart
and stylish presentation by the gentlemen and boys, and the
lovely poise and graceful use of arms shown by the ladies
and girls, contributed to a most elegant interlude, which
was a pleasure to watch. I was particularly impressed by the
ease with which the competitors, some of them very young,
switched from Classical to Modern Sequence to Latin Sequence,
and showed such a high standard of rhythmic expression, style
and foot use in each section. First class grooming and elegant,
tasteful dress were apparent in each event.
A
most successful addition to the Blackpool weekend, which,
I am sure, will have encouraged other teachers and pupils
to ‘have a go’ and hopefully will result in even
more schools taking part next year.
