With
great sadness I am writing these words about a very dear
friend and colleague and a brilliant, much loved teacher,
examiner and lecturer. Pat Goode passed away peacefully
on July 27th after a long and brave fight against cancer. |
Pat
embarked on her dancing career in 1966 through social classes,
when she and her husband Mick gained a range of medals and
awards in addition to entering competitions. In 1973, wishing
to achieve the highest possible standard, she decided to train
for her professional teaching examinations, coming to study
with me at our Alex Moore School of Dancing in Kingston upon
Thames, where she later became a valued teacher.
In
1974 she gained her Latin American Associate and by 1980 had
achieved her Fellowships in Latin American and Ballroom, while
in 1988 she was appointed as an examiner for the ISTD in these
Faculties. Since then she extended her expertise and knowledge
in all the DanceSport Faculties, embracing Disco/Freestyle/Rock
‘n’ Roll, Country and Western and Classical Sequence
and was a valued member of the Ballroom Faculty Committee.
What a worker, and what a wonderful ability to absorb the
knowledge necessary for all these aspects of dance and being
able to impart it to other. In later years Pat taught at the
Starlight Ballroom, Streatham, and was always busy examining,
involving much travelling. As recently as 10th July she conducted
her last exams, these taking place at Yvonne Taylor-Hill’s
studio.
On
27th June she was the first to examine the new Latin American
graded exams, this time for Marion Lane, and on 30th June
held her own examination session.
This
lovely lady lived for her family and dance and will be sadly
missed by all her colleagues, pupils and the many dancers
she trained for their professional
qualifications. Our deepest sympathy is extended to her husband
Mick who was always so supportive, and to her son, daughter
and granddaughters.
In
Pat’s own words from her brochure:
‘To
enjoy your life and leave your stresses behind,
To develop a healthy heart and a happy mind.
We have the answer how your life we can enhance,
Join us one evening and enjoy the pleasures of dance’.
Rest
in peace, dear Pat.
