Mrs
Pali Chandra
As
a student of the Masters Degree in Arts from the University
of Lucknow, Pali broke all past records of seven years
and stood first class in Social Anthropology.
Her
research paper on the folk dances and music of the Gaddi
Tribe was adjudged the best paper of the year.
As
a performing artiste of Kathak she was recognised for
her outstanding work in 1988 and had the distinction
of being the youngest recipient of the prestigious Lachhu
Maharaj Award. In 1990 she won the Gold Medal for her
performance in Prayag Sangeet Samiti, one of the oldest
organisations pioneering the field of Art. She was also
adjudged the best dancer of the year in the All India
Kathak Competition, organised by the Samiti.
Pali
had the distinction of representing the Indian Council
for Cultural Relations, Government of India in a symposium
for interaction between Indian and foreign choreographers.
With her experimental approach to choreography she has
presented a number of very innovative dances and ballets
on Doordarshan (Indian TV), BBC and TV Asia Network.
Her
desire to learn every aspect of stage craft made her
join the Holborn Centre of Performing Arts, London,
designed for the technical and aesthetic operations
of light and sound in relation to movement.
As
a scholar of Indian classical dancers and a Kathak dancer
of outstanding merits she has been getting standing
ovations for her lecture-demonstrations at various institutions
throughout the UK, including Oxford University, London
School of Contemporary Dance, Phoenix Arts, Leicester
and the Academy of Indian Dances. Her visit to Hong
Kong University to conduct workshops and give lecture-demonstrations
to the students of the Masters Degree in Indian dances
was recognised as an extremely rewarding experience
for the students.
At
every moment of success in her life Pali acknowledges
the blessings of her first teacher, Guru Vikram Singh.
