Scottish Congress
Through
the eyes of an eight year old...
I
am Miriam McDonald. I am a pupil at North Aberdeenshire
Dance Academy (NADA). I do Tap. A while ago I was chosen
for the ISTD Scottish Congress to demonstrate the (maybe)
new Tap syllabus. I was delighted and so excited. Since
I got that letter I was restless.
There
were lots of extra practices, some on Wednesdays with
Miss Bruce or Miss Caldwell in Oldmeldrum (Miss Bruce
damaged her knee cartilage the week after we started
the extra practices) and every two weeks with Alison
in Tarves. Alison kindly came all the way up from London
to teach me and the other people who were chosen for
the Congress, six grade 1’s (one of them was me),
five grade 2’s and five grade 5’s. Alison
Forester is a very nice woman and a very good teacher.
After
a few weeks of practices everyone went to Glasgow for
the big Congress. I felt excited and nervous at the
same time. There was a minibus but my family and I went
down in the car. The Congress was at Knightswood, the
Dance School of Scotland.
When
everyone got there we had a practice in the room next
door. After the practice we went into the room that
we had been in and had our lunch. While we were having
our lunch Miss Bruce’s mum put our hair in a neat
bun (like a professional hairdresser) one by one. A
while later we went back into the room we had practiced
in. I was surprised that was the room we were displaying
in, as I thought it would be a big room with lots of
seats. we would be displaying in. I enjoyed myslef throughout
the display and I think the others did too.
All
the girls (there were two boys) got a Bratz tin pencil
case with sweeties in and the boys got a Spiderman pencil
case with sweeties in.
I
felt sad when it was time to go home because I would
miss Alison a lot.
