Tap in the Far East

There appears to be a growing interest in Tap dancing in China, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.

This summer at Chichester Residential Course we welcomed Cora Hayashi from Japan and Li Kangsheng (Karl) from China. Cora is sponsoring this work in China and all the tutors at Chichester were delighted with her charming manner and enthusiastic approach. We wish them every success with their teaching and will continue to support them in anyway possible.

Marion Brown brought to my notice the existence of the Beijing Sports Dance Academy. The school is largely concerned with Ballroom and Latin but they do have a thriving Tap department and are looking for staff, especially those with choreographic skills. Any teacher interested should contact Marion Brown on maribrown48@hotmail.com

Malaysia and Singapore are of course not new to Tap but there appears to be a growing interest in the subject and I was most impressed with the standard of the technique and the dedication of the teachers. It was also wonderful to see so many young male candidates.
