Candidate Entry Requirements

Candidates applying for the FDI must be 17 years of age, or older, before the end of the academic year (31st August) in which they are registering and have successfully completed the Intermediate examination in the dance genre(s) in which they are wishing to achieve their FDI qualification.

Candidates applying for the CDE must be 18 years of age, or older, before the end of the academic year in which they are registering and have successfully completed the Advanced 1 examination and the FDI in the dance genre(s), in which they are wishing to achieve the CDE qualification.

Intermediate and Advanced 1 examinations achieved through any of the following awarding bodies will be recognised: ISTD, RAD, BTDA, or BBO.

Previously qualified teachers, i.e. Associate or above, who are completing units following their APL outcome, are not required to complete the Intermediate and Advanced 1 qualifications in the genre in which they are qualified. Candidates falling into this category who wish to add a new genre or genres will, however, need to fulfil the entry requirements as stated, for the new genre they have chosen to study.

Those candidates who have applied for APL , but are not previously qualified teachers, i.e. below Associate level, will also need to fulfil the entry requirements as stated.
