Teaching
Qualifications in the European Union
Our teaching qualifications, the Foundation in Dance
Instruction (FDI) and Certificate in Dance Education
(CDE), are attracting more and more students, both ISTD
and non-ISTD members. If you have been thinking of completing
these teaching qualifications then please carefully
read the following.
The FDI and CDE are modular qualifications that develop
the practical teaching skills required to become a recognised,
qualified and fully rounded dance teacher. The qualifications
are spilt into several units which are arranged into
modules. This modular approach allows flexibility for
our students, who we appreciate have very busy schedules.
In order to study for the FDI and CDE you need to register
with an Approved Dance Centre. A list of these can be
found in DANCE EXTRA, or on the training section of
the ISTD website. Once you have found your Approved
Dance Centre, they will arrange for your registration
for the relevant qualification and support you throughout
your course of study.
If you have prior experience or qualifications we advise
you to fill out an Accreditation of Prior (Experiential)
Learning form – otherwise known as an AP(E)L form.
This can be downloaded from the training section of
our website or requested via the Professional Development
Officer. We are able to take into account dance and
teaching qualifications which are level 3 and above
on the National Qualifications Framework.
We have received excellent feedback from both experienced
and new teachers who have embarked on the FDI/CDE route.
Over 1,200 teachers have now completed either their
FDI or CDE with a total of almost 3,100 FDI and CDE
genres specific qualifications certificated.
If you would like to find out more about completing
your FDI or CDE, please contact the Professional Development
Officer in the Education & Training Department.
