Entry Conditions for the Certificate in Dance Education (CDE)

The Theatre and Dancesport Faculties’ Boards have agreed that, as of 1st September 2009, the entry criteria for the Certificate in Dance Education (CDE) will no longer require candidates to have achieved an Advanced 1 qualification in the genre in which they are registering.

The entry conditions as of 1st September 2009 will therefore be as follows:

Foundation in Dance Instruction (FDI):
• candidates must be 17 years of age before the end of the academic year in which they register, and
• hold the Intermediate examination of the ISTD or other Ofqual-approved awarding body (BBO, BTDA, RAD) in the genre in which they register.

Certificate in Dance Education (CDE):
• candidates must be 18 years of age before the end of the academic year in which they register, and
• hold the Foundation in Dance Instruction (FDI) in the genre in which they register.

If you have any questions regarding this change of criteria, please contact Gemma Bridge, Teaching Modules Administrator, in the Education and Training Department at tma@istd.org.
