What happens if I make any changes in my Centre?
- The ADC should make the ISTD aware of any changes within the Centre i.e. staffing, Centre name, changes to physical facilities, or addition of schools for Module 1 assessment on the Change of Approval form. This form must be sent to Education and Training along with all other information required for us to approve the change. Click here to download a Change of Approval form.

Can my Centre only offer the Dance Practice units?
- The short answer is no. A Centre is approved for the full award not parts thereof and therefore all candidates registered through an ADC must complete their qualification, including all relevant examinations, through that centre
- The Centre can choose to deliver Module 2 units using the Course Book as a text book for seminars, lectures, tutorials or as a Distance Learning Package with candidates using a tutor at the ADC as a support tutor or an ISTD approved Distance Learning Tutor. Whichever route is chosen by the ADC, candidates must be registered, entered for exams and sit their exams at the ADC

What do I do with the Task Completion Forms?
- When entering candidates for a Module 2 examination the ADC must send photocopies of the signed off Task Completion forms to the TMA along with payment and the exam entry form by the published closing date

What do I do with the written papers?
Module 2
- All written papers should be submitted by the ADC to the ISTD Teaching Modules Administrator (TMA) immediately after the examination has taken place
Background to a Chosen Dance Genre essay

What do I need to do for a candidate with special needs?
- Centres should ensure candidates complete the Other Details section of the FDI or CDE Registration form complete an Application for Special Arrangements (ASA) form to inform the ISTD of any special need they feel they have
- Further, when Centres enter candidates for examination they should tick the box on the Examination Entry form to show that the candidate has been registered as requiring special arrangements. This box must be completed for each unit for which the candidate is entered
- To see the ISTD Equal Opportunities policy and details on our procedures for special needs please click here

What are the differences with APL candidates?
- APL candidates are generally longstanding ISTD teachers with teaching qualifications and experience that has exempted them from certain units of the FDI and CDE
- All APL candidates will have an APL Outcome Form which they should show to their ADC to make the ADC aware of their requirements. The Form will list all units that the candidate is either Required to complete or Exempted from. For further information on APL please click here
- APL candidates who are required to undertake one or both units of Module 2 do not need to have tasks signed off by a tutor, although it is highly recommended that they complete them as these assist in the learning process

Who needs a portfolio?
- All candidates need a portfolio unless they are an APL candidate who is exempt from Module 1 of both the FDI and CDE

How do my candidates obtain a portfolio?
- Once your Dance Centre is approved, and your Tutors have attended Module 1 training, the Centre is able to register candidates for both the FDI and CDE in your approved genres. When you register any candidate who requires a portfolio, send the Registration Form to the Teaching Modules Administrator (TMA) with a cheque for £20 per candidate. The TMA will then register the candidate to your Centre and pass your request for a portfolio to the Sales Department

Can my candidates complete their units in a different order?
- Candidates are recommended to undertake the units in the order they are set in the syllabus, but this is not compulsory. However, candidates may not progress to Certificate in Dance Education units before they have been awarded their Foundation in Dance Instruction

Who arranges classes for candidates to observe/ teach in Module 1?
- It is the ADC’s responsibility to arrange classes for candidates to complete their Module 1 requirements. These classes do not need to take place at the ADC itself; all schools that are to be used must be submitted on the original application form or on a Changes of Approval form to ISTD for approval before any classes take place. However, the final teaching assessment must take place at the ADC itself

Is there any quick check sheet to help me with the administration for the qualifications?
- All Approved Dance Centres are sent an Administration Manual which deals specifically with the administration of the FDI and CDE examinations. If your Centre has not received a copy please contact the Teaching Modules Administrator at the ISTD who will send a copy to you

What if the candidates’ first language isn’t English?
- Tutors of candidates for units 4 and 5 of the FDI and 6 and 7 of the CDE who wish to be assessed in Welsh or Irish (Gaeilge) must inform the UK Examinations department at least 6 weeks before the examination. The Examinations department will arrange a translator, and inform the centre at least 3 weeks before the examination of the fee that will be charged
- Candidates taking dance practice examinations in other countries where English is not the first language, may take the examinations in their own language, with the use of a translator, which must be arranged with the International Examinations department
- Tutors of candidates taking written examinations who wish to take it Welsh, Irish (Gaeilge) or in their own first language must apply to the Teaching Modules Administrator, at the time of entry. The Teaching Modules Administrator arranges for translation of the examination question papers. Answer papers completed in any language other than English are returned to the Teaching Modules Administrator, who arrange translation at the candidates cost

What if anything goes wrong?
- Centres must have a robust complaints procedure that should be followed in cases of complaint or appeal. This procedure will have been checked by ISTD as part of the application process. In the case of malpractice, those actions and practices which threaten the integrity of the examinations and certification, the ISTD’s procedure can be found by clicking here
