The National Dance Faculty invite teachers from around the globe to enter their pupils for this exciting new competition, in celebration of the inspirational work of Robert Harrold and Margaret Dixon-Phillip in developing this wonderful dance genre.

Competition Details

Following the announcement of another national lockdown in the UK (Jan 2021), we can confirm that the National Awards will continue as planned.

Please read all the entry criteria, health and safety sections and our competition terms & conditions with care before entering.

Entry ticket/s cost £10 and are available to purchase for your pupil/s via Eventbrite. 1 ticket per dance.

You will be required to upload video/s of your pupil/s performing their dance/s to our secure Dropbox platform by Monday 25 January 2021, no late entries will be accepted. 

Adjudication of Heats will take place thereafter. The adjudication of some sections may be combined at committee’s discretion.

Details of where to upload your videos will be included on your order confirmation from Eventbrite.

Competitors’ teachers will be notified of Finalists by email. Winners will be announced via video on 12 February. The link will be shared with teachers.

Certificates will be issued for all participants and finalists. Prize winners will receive medals and certificates.

Don't forget your previously recorded videos are also permitted for submission.

Entry Criteria / Rules

Open to all pupils of qualified dance teachers worldwide. Categories as follows...


Pre-Junior: 6 years and under. 1.5 minute dance 

  • Class A: 7 and 8 years. 1.5 minute dance
  • Class B: 9 and 10 years. 1.5 minute dance 
  • Class C: 11 and 12 years. 2 minute dance
  • Class D: 13 and 14 years. 2 minute dance
  • Class E: 15 and over (max 21 years). 2 minute dance


  • Junior 10 and under. 2.5 minute dance 
  • Intermediate 14 and under. 2.5 minute dance 
  • Senior 15 and over. 2.5 minute dance 

Trios / Quartets

  • Junior 10 and under. 2.5 minute dance 
  • Intermediate 14 and under. 2.5 minute dance 
  • Senior 15 and over. 2.5 minute dance 

Solos: only one dance per competitor may be submitted.

Duets /Trios /Quartets: more than one entry can be submitted but these must be with different dancers.

Entry number and entry category must be written clearly on an A4 sheet and held by the competitor/s in clear sight at the start of the video.

Competitors’ body and feet must be clearly visible on the recording throughout. Suitable footwear required dependent on dance style and floor type / covering.

Make-up: as appropriate for the age range.

Dances to be performed once through only.

The Adjudicators’ decision is final, individual feedback will not be provided.

The integrity of the teacher is relied upon to ensure that these rules are followed by all participants.

Health & Safety

Safe dance practice / Floor craft are paramount.

Teachers should ensure their competitors are fully warmed up beforehand and perform the dances in a safe manner, which will not cause injury, ensuring the area chosen to dance is suitable and clear from any obstructions.

For safeguarding and security reasons it is preferable that teachers use a recording device with (preferably password protected) a memory card.

If teachers choose to use a mobile device, the footage should be uploaded immediately to the secure link through Dropbox provided by the Society, once the footage is transferred, this should be deleted from your device and not stored.

Video Guidance

Videos must be submitted by qualified dance teachers ONLY.

Upon submission of the entry fee, a Dropbox link will be located at the bottom of the Eventbrite PDF ticket, where teachers can upload their competitor’s videos securely.

It is of paramount importance that the video is of good visual quality and that the music can be heard. Videos of poor quality may affect the result of entries.

Films recorded by a family member are acceptable, but these must be submitted by the teacher.

Please title your video with the following information:

  • School name
  • Entry number
  • Entry Category
  • Dance title and country

Terms & Conditions

Anyone competing in this online event does so at their own risk. The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing will not accept any responsibility for any injury. 

By entering your competitors’ videos, you have agreed on your competitor’s behalf, that media consent is given in perpetuity. Therefore, if your competitor is a finalist their video will be shown in the online announcement. This video footage may then be used by the Society for any promotional purposes at any time in the future on any marketing platform.

Teachers are responsible for obtaining written consent from competitors’ parents/ carers/ guardians before submitting their video/s.

Principals & Teachers – Please ensure all teachers involved in preparing pupils for the competition, are fully aware and understand the competition rules.

Upon submission of your video entry on your competitor’s behalf you are agreeing to the criteria set above and that you agree to adhere to health and safety regulations and the competitor rules.

All video entries will be deleted by Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing within 10 working days of the final announcements except those of the event’s Finalists which will be kept on file for 18 months.
