ABOUT

The Classical Greek Dance Faculty are delighted to invite teachers to enter their pupils for this annual competition. The 2020 Awards will be offered as an Online competition in celebration of the diversity of our work and adaptability of our members during this challenging time.

Competition Details

Please read all the entry criteria, health and safety sections and our competition terms & conditions with care before entering.

Entry ticket/s are available to purchase for your pupil/s via Eventbrite now. 1 entry ticket per pupil.

Ticket sales will close on Friday 2 October 2020 following which participants will be notified of their schedule and competitor number for the event.

The event will be held on Sunday 8 November 2020 and will consist of the following six categories:

  • Class A: 10 years and under (must have gained Primary or Grade 1)
  • Class B: 11 years and under (must have gained Grade 2)
  • Class C: 12 years and under (must have gained Grade 3/Bronze Medal)
  • Class D: 14 years and under (must have gained Grade 4/Silver Medal)
  • Class E & F: 16 years and under (must have gained Grade 5/Gold Medal OR Grade 6 Inter Foundation)
  • Class G: 18 Years and under (must have gained Inter/Adv 1/Gold Star)

All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation and Winners will receive a trophy which, for this year only, will be theirs to keep.

Entry Criteria / Rules

 All competitors must be entered by an up to date Society member. No late entries will be accepted, closing date is Friday 2 October 2020.

Each class will be invited to attend via a Zoom link. When signing in please identify yourself with Class and allocated competitor number.

During the class, sequences will be seen in groups; you may be asked to turn off your video whilst others dance.

Competitors body and feet must be clearly visible throughout the class and competitor number must be worn.

Candidates MUST enter classes according to the certificate they hold at the closing date, despite working at a higher level.

The chosen sequences, clearly stated in the ‘conditions of entry’ will be of the same grade required for entry to the class.

Candidates will be adjudicated on their technique and performance throughout the whole class.

Anyone in full time training is NOT permitted to enter this competition.

Candidates who have previously won an award are NOT permitted to enter the same level class the following year.

The type of dance space used will not influence adjudication and it is understood that pattern / direction for some sequences may need to be modified to fit the available dance space.

The integrity of the teacher is relied upon to ensure that the rules are followed by all participants to enable the smooth running of the event

Should there be any technical / internet issues resulting in a dancer not being seen an opportunity will be made for them to perform again.

Class Content / Format

Each Class will be taught and adjudicated separately. Classes will be combined if necessary.

Class A - 10 years and under. Must have gained Primary or Grade 1.

Sequences from Grade 1 required for this class:

  • Foot and Knee Sequence
  • Sequence for Elevation
  • Walks using music A (theme given on the day)
  • Dance Sequence
  • Improvisation – Music to be provided by the Adjudicator

Class B - 11 years and under. Must have gained Grade 2.

Sequences from Grade 2 required for this class:

  • Technical Exercise for Feet, Knees and Spinning
  • Head and Arm Sequence
  • Sequence for Elevation
  • Dance Sequence
  • Improvisation – Music to be provided by the Adjudicator

Class C - 12 years and under. Must have gained Grade 3 / Bronze Medal.

Sequences from Grade 3 required for this class:

  • Exercise for Footsway and Relaxed 2nd
  • Frieze Line Sequence
  • Elevation Sequence
  • Dance Sequence
  • Improvisation – Music to be provided by the Adjudicator

Class D - 14 years and under. Must have gained Grade 4 / Silver Medal

Sequences from Grade 4 required for this class:

  • Body Movement Sequence
  • Leg and Hip Sequence
  • Ball Sequence
  • Dance Sequence – Serenity or Exhilaration
  • Improvisation – Music to be provided by the Adjudicator

Class E - 16 years and under. Must have gained Grade 5 / Gold Medal.

and

Class F - 16 years and under. Must have gained Grade 6 / Inter Foundation.

Sequences from Grade 5 required for both these classes:

  • Deep Knee bend Sequence
  • Positions of Offering Sequence, Music C (Candidate/Teacher’s arrangement)
  • Sequence for Elevation
  • Choice of Dance Sequence: Grade 5 Hermes, The Trickster / The Siren / Sequence to Apollo. Grade 6 Offering to Flora / Athletic Sequence
  • Improvisation – Music to be provided by the Adjudicator

Class G - 18 years and under. Must have gained Inter / Advanced 1 / Gold Star.

Show from Intermediate required for this class:

  • Sequence for Movement and Continuity (adapted to suit dance space)
  • Foot and Knee Sequence
  • Ball Sequence – Version A only
  • Swing lunges with Pendulum Balance and Hip stretch - Music B
  • Choice of any Dance Sequence from Inter / Adv 1/ Gold Star
  • Improvisation – Music to be provided by the adjudicator

Health & Safety

Safe dance practice / Floor craft are paramount.

Teachers should ensure their competitors are fully warmed up beforehand and perform in a safe manner, which will not cause injury, ensuring the area chosen to dance is suitable and clear from any obstructions.

Suitable footwear required dependent on floor type / covering and COVID-19 restrictions.

Anyone competing in this online event does so at their own risk. The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing will not accept any responsibility for any injury.

By entering your competitors you have agreed on your competitor’s behalf, that media consent is given in perpetuity.

Principals & Teachers – Please ensure all teachers involved in preparing pupils for the competition, are fully aware and understand the competition rules.

Upon submission of your application on your competitor’s behalf you are agreeing to the criteria set above and that you agree to adhere to health and safety regulations and the competitor rules.

The Adjudicators decision is final, individual feedback will not be provided.
