Government update November 2020

England's second national lockdown begins. Find out what this might mean for you and your dance school

5 November 2020

Yesterday the UK government released updated guidance on the new national restrictions, which specifies that out-of-school dance classes in England must close for face-to-face teaching from 5 November.  However, we are delighted to announce that we have received a confirmation from Department for Education (DfE) that examinations for our regulated qualifications are permitted during the lockdown period and can continue to be conducted in out-of-school dance class settings.  Please note that due to the travel restrictions all examinations will be conducted remotely.

Our regulated qualifications include:

  • Primary Graded
  • Grade 1 - 6
  • Intermediate Foundation
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced 1 (inc. Analysis)
  • Advanced 2 (inc. Analysis)
  • DDE Unit 4
  • DDP Practical unit

We understand the frustration that you and your students must feel at having to move classes back online, but hope the news that exams can continue will keep your students motivated until we can return to the studio.

If you have examinations booked for our unregulated qualifications between now and 2 December, the Examinations department will be in contact with you shortly to reschedule your exam session/s. Please be patient as the Examinations department will start this process with those exam sessions which were due to take place imminently. As we anticipate the lockdown to be shorter, we will not be proving refunds at this time, but you will be able reschedule the exam session with no additional costs.

Please continue to check the latest guidance on new national restrictions from 5 November to see which businesses and venues can open and for which purposes in England.

Where members work in formal education in England such as vocational training centres, FE colleges or universities, you should follow the relevant guidance for those settings.

We acknowledge that further guidance has been provided recently by the governments in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, and we are in the process of reviewing this information. In the meantime, you should contact your local authority to understand whether your business can remain open.
