We congratulate both Mrs Kajal Sharma and her student Krishna Panchmatia.

Congratulations to...

Mrs Kajal Sharma

We congratulate Mrs Kajal Sharma from our Kathak Faculty for receiving two separate awards on International Women's Day 2021.

Sharma received a ‘Great Indian Women Award’ (GIWA), honouring and celebrating her wonderful work as a Kathak artist. These awards are presented to exceptional women for making substantial impact and contributions in their respective fields, selected from all over the world and in many different areas like Science, Law, IT, Business, Arts and Culture.

The impressive contribution made by Kajal to Kathak, in India and abroad, before settling in UK, and her work here is well documented. During the last period of lockdown, she was also exceptionally busy. Kajal was invited to be guest Kathak expert, judge or Jury in more than 50 online cultural events in India and UK, many involving international participants, whilst continuing her busy schedule of teaching her numerous students.

She was also given a 'Nari Shakti' (Strength to Women) award by the Urvashi Dance, Music, Art and Cultural Society for her contribution to culture through her dance.

Krishna Panchmatia

Additionally, one of Kajal’s senior students, 23 years old Krishna Panchmatia, has received a ‘special Jury award’ for her exceptional performance in an international online talent competition ’Sur Taal Hunar ka Kamal’.

The competition included all Indian classical dances and vocal music and was performed under the combined auspices of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of Culture, International Chamber of Media and entertainment Industry (ICMEI) and Urvashi dance company. It involved over a thousand participants from all over the world in the initial stages that were narrowed down to just 20, in four stages.

Krishna completed her grade 6 In Kathak from the Society in 2018 and has been a student of Kajal Sharma for 14 years. She is a busy Assistant Psychologist in the NHS, and she truly deserves our Congratulations and best wishes for a bright future as a dancer.
