The ISTD’s (unregulated) Associate and Associate Diploma qualifications are recognised internationally throughout the dance teaching world and aim to give prospective dance teachers a solid grounding in the skills and knowledge needed to teach dance in a safe environment.

Requirements

To take the Associate examination, learners must be 18 years old or above, and fulfil any other conditions of entry as specified in the syllabus outline.

ISTD Membership

Graduates of the Associate qualification may become Auxiliary Members of the Society, which makes them eligible to enter candidates for ISTD examinations in both, Theatre Dance and Dancesport genres.

Associate Diploma

Overview and Objectives

The Associate Diploma builds on the skills gained in the Associate and gives dance teachers further insight into the teaching of dance in their chosen genre.

Delivery and Support

The examination consists of a teaching assessment class during which learners are assessed on their knowledge of the syllabus as well as their teaching ability. ???

Requirements

To take the Associate Diploma examination, learners must be 21 years old or above, hold the Associate qualification in the relevant genre, have completed three years of responsible teaching in that genre, and fulfil any other conditions of entry specified in the syllabus outline. The Associate Diploma must also be completed within three years of achieving the Associate qualification. 

Progression Routes

Following completion of the Associate qualification, graduates can apply to progress onto the ISTD’s selection of advanced dance teaching qualifications.

ISTD Membership

Graduates of the Associate qualification may become Full Members of the Society, which gives them voting rights on Society business and makes them eligible to enter candidates for ISTD examinations in both, Theatre Dance and Dancesport genres.
