Lecture descriptions

Start your day with an energising warm-up from our experienced lecturer, who will guide you safely through the components. You can even use the ideas for your own classes!

Street solos (beginners)

Are you thinking about taking part in Street Dance competitions or would just love some new fun choreography for your classes?  This lecture will give you some great ideas for your beginner pupils to use for fun in your sessions or, to use on the competition floor for your first-timers.

Rock n Roll is such a fun genre to introduce into your classes.  Whether you are currently teaching Rock n Roll or, you would like to use the partner work to challenge your advanced pupils for show work or just for general class work, this lecture will give you some excellent and imaginative ideas.  No partner is required on the day if you wish to participate!

Peggy Spencer Award

This award is named after the amazing Peggy Spencer MBE and an attribute to all her work introducing Disco/Freestyle to our dance studios.  You will be inspired by the scope in this award to really stretch your pupils’ imaginations and be provided with advanced work to use in your studios, inspired by current music trends and sound techniques, this lecture will give you some fantastic inspiration to use in your weekly classes as well as an insight into entering your pupils for this prestigious award.

Contemporary is the newest genre to be introduced into the ISTD.  We are thrilled that Laura Flanagan, an experienced contemporary teacher, currently teaching at the Brit School, is available to deliver examples of the ISTD intermediate contemporary syllabus, focussing on the preparatory exercises but also providing us with a lyrical contemporary “free” routine.

Disco Freestyle (Bronze and Silver)

Our lecturer for this session is highly experienced in delivering dance to mainstream schools. Disco/Freestyle is now a genre inspired by current music trends, using jumps, kicks and high energy.  The routines for Bronze and Silver will challenge your more experienced dancers and delve into the foundations of technique.

Inclusive Dance

For those of you who are teaching in after-school clubs or within school PPA time, this lecture is for you!  Vanessa is a passionate and enthusiastic teacher who has a real drive for inclusion in her classes.  She will provide you with ways to promote inclusivity and share with you the secrets of her teachings.

Business Lecture

In the dance world, we are all still recovering from the effects of COVID.  You will be provided with business tool kits, checklists and marketing ideas to help you continue to grow your business.

Street and Hip Hop (Gold)

We are thrilled to have Sam Vale lead this lecture for us! She will deliver an advanced routine suitable for your more experienced dancers.

Time for technique

Award-winning teacher and examiner Paul Streatfield will give us some great teaching tips for ensuring our dancers are performing with flawless technique and musicality.

Take to the floor

Claire Sullivan coaches championship-level competitors and will share her choreography ideas with you for your beginner Freestyle competitors.

Slow pairs

An opportunity to delve into the emotional performance qualities behind our more lyrical and slower pair's work. Be inspired by the connection to the most up-to-date lyrical musical trends with Amy at the helm.

Join our experienced teacher in “Cooling down' safely after a day of dancing.

Set Dance presentation

The Set Dances are used in our ISTD DFR area competitions; however, they can also be used as classwork.  There are 16 routines one for each level and age group from Under 6 through to advanced work, covering Street Dance, Disco/Freestyle and solo Rock n Roll routines.  You will have the opportunity to purchase the Set Dance DVD on the day at a heavily discounted price before it goes on general sale.

Note: The majority of our lectures are participation sessions. You can choose to participate, or simply observe.  We permit filming throughout the day for your personal use. This is a great opportunity for teachers to dance and to learn new choreography along with other dance professionals.
