Tuesday 14 February, 10:00 - 17:00 (6 CPD hours) (SOLD OUT)
Modern Theatre: Revise and Regenerate - Revision of Intermediate Modern (Options A & B) to Free Music Playlist
A practical lecture for you to participate and/or observe. Demonstrators will be provided by the ISTD. Please note, this course will NOT include the Option B Floor Sequence, Amalgamations or analysis of Dance Vocabulary & Free Work.
As part of the society’s mission to drive equality in the world of dance, we have revisited the existing syllabus, opening the choices of previously named ‘male & female’ designated exercises for all dancers to select a mixture of either Option A or Option B. This innovative development will allow your students to experience a greater range of musical dynamics and a variety of physical and emotional qualities. By using a new playlist of completely free music you will be able to explore diversity of style regardless of your students’ gender.
On this course you will learn the revised settings of the current exercises (Option A & B) that have irregular phrasing and rediscover the intention and purpose of this important syllabus. Explore how using free music can inspire us to revisit the artistic dynamics originally intended in the existing work and discuss how this regeneration of ideas will encourage us to breathe new life into this iconic body of work. The analysis of Intermediate has a clear pathway through the grades and into the Advanced 1 and Advanced 2syllabi. By Revisiting and Regenerating the same routes deeply embedded in the current Intermediate, we can have insight into these same concepts which will be further developed in the New Revised Intermediate.
As the entrance exam for DDE, the Intermediate syllabus is the highest level studied when embarking on a career as a qualified teacher. This course is a must for anyone teaching Intermediate, all DDE Unit 4 Tutors, Associate & Associate Diploma teachers and their students as well as anyone studying or coaching Licentiate and Fellowship. Look out for future Conceptional Courses that explore teaching around the syllabus, making our students journey as a well-equipped dancer a prerequisite for learning a syllabus!
Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 February, 10:00 - 17:00 (12 CPD hours)
Contemporary Dance: Intermediate Foundation Syllabus
This course aims to provide teachers with the skills they need to prepare students for examination. Attendees will experience syllabus exercises and explore the key elements and themes of the Intermediate Foundation level of the syllabus. Teachers will also investigate methods and tools for setting and guiding students through structured improvisation tasks.
Created by the well-known dancer, choreographer, philosopher, and Artistic Director of the Rambert School (from 1985–2015) Dr Ross McKim, our Contemporary dance syllabus is informed by Eastern concepts of subtle energy and draws influence from choreographers Graham, Hawkins and Cohan. This syllabus aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of Contemporary dance technique and performance by approaching different movement themes at each level, specially created solos and the inclusion of structured improvisation to enable students to explore, develop and create their own movement vocabulary.
Friday 17 February, 10:00 - 17:00 (6 CPD hours)

A thorough working knowledge of the syllabus is essential to this course, as this will not be taught from scratch.
