Competition details

The competition will once again be held online. Open to all pupils of qualified teachers worldwide, discover the categories below.

Please read all the entry criteria, health and safety sections and our competition Terms and Conditions with care before entering.

Standard rate £15 

Video submissions must be uploaded by Sunday 31 October 2021.

Details of where to upload your videos will be included in your order confirmation from Eventbrite. No late entries will be accepted.

Adjudication of Heats will take place thereafter. The adjudication of some sections may be combined at the committee’s discretion. The Adjudicators’ decision is final, individual feedback will not be provided.

Winners will be announced via video showreel on Wednesday 1 December 2021.

All participating teachers will be emailed the video link in advance of the showreel being shared on our National Dance Faculty Facebook group.

All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation. Finalists will receive individual certificates and Winners will receive medals and certificates.


Entry Criteria

Open to all pupils of qualified dance teachers worldwide.

Please use the date of the winner's announcement, Wednesday 1 December 2021, to determine which category to enter.

Categories as follows:

Solos

Only one dance per competitor may be submitted.

    • Pre-Junior: 6 years and under: 1½ -minute dance
    • Class A: 7 and 8 years: 1½ -minute dance
    • Class B: 9 and 10 years: 1½ -minute dance
    • Class C: 11 and 12 years: 2-minute dance
    • Class D: 13 and 14 years: 2-minute dance
    • Class E: 15 and over (max 21 years): 2-minute dance

Duets

More than one entry can be submitted but these must be with different dancers.

    • Junior 10 and under: 1½-minute dance
    • Intermediate 14 and under: 2-minute dance
    • Senior 15 and over: 2-minute dance 


Trios / Quartets

    • Junior 10 and under: 1½-minute dance
    • Intermediate 14 and under: 2-minute dance
    • Senior 15 and over: 2-minute dance

Video submissions must have been filmed within 5 months of the competition closing date and should reflect the current age of the competitor.

Entry number and category must be written clearly on an A4 sheet and held by the competitor/s in clear sight at the start of the video.

Competitors’ bodies and feet must be clearly visible on the recording throughout. Suitable footwear required dependent on dance style and floor type/covering.

Make-up: as appropriate for the age range.

Dances are to be performed once through only.

The Adjudicators’ decision is final, individual feedback will not be provided.

The integrity of the teacher is relied upon to ensure that these rules are followed by all participants.

Health and safety

Safe dance practice / Floor craft is paramount.

Teachers should ensure their competitors are fully warmed up beforehand and perform the dances in a safe manner, which will not cause injury, ensuring the area chosen to dance is suitable and clear from any obstructions.

For safeguarding and security reasons it is preferable that teachers use a recording device with (preferably password protected) a memory card.

Teachers should upload footage immediately to the secure link provided by the Society. Once the footage is transferred, this should be deleted from your device and not stored.

Video Guidance

Videos recorded on mobile devices must be in landscape mode

Upon submission of the entry fee, a Dropbox link will be located at the bottom of the Eventbrite PDF ticket, where teachers can upload their competitor’s videos securely.

It is of paramount importance that the video is of good visual quality and that the music can be heard. Videos of poor quality may affect the result of entries.

Films recorded by a family member are acceptable, but these must be submitted by the teacher. Videos must be submitted by qualified dance teachers ONLY.

Please title your video with the following information:

  • School name
  • Entry number
  • Entry Category
  • Dance title and country

Important for anonymity - Please do NOT include the Dance School name within the video footage.

Terms and Conditions

Anyone competing in this online event does so at their own risk. The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing will not accept any responsibility for any injury.

A media consent form will be circulated to those who have booked tickets. Written consent must be obtained for competitors and any additional performers from parents/carers/guardians before submitting video/s.

By entering your competitors’ videos, you have agreed on your competitor’s behalf, that media consent is given in perpetuity. Therefore, if your competitor is a finalist their video will be shown in the online announcement. This video footage may then be used by the ISTD for any promotional purposes at any time in the future on any marketing platform.

Principals and Teachers – Please ensure all teachers involved in preparing pupils for the competition, are fully aware and understand the competition rules.

Upon submission of your video entry on your competitor’s behalf, you are agreeing to the criteria set above and that you agree to adhere to health and safety regulations and the competitor rules.

Winners’ entry video footage may be kept and used by the Society for any promotional purposes for up to two years, all other video entries will be deleted within 10 working days of winners and commendations being announced.

No refunds* are payable once an entry has been made and payment received.

*The competition relies on a certain number of entries being received. If insufficient entries are received the competition may not be viable and in this case, entry fees will be returned. Competitors must be made aware of this by their teacher in advance. If the competition cannot take place teachers will be advised by email.
