Course Descriptions

 

Contemporary Dance: Intermediate Foundation Refresher

This course is for those who have attended a full Intermediate Foundation course and aims to provide delegates with an opportunity to review elements of the syllabus and ask further questions. Delegates are encouraged to detail exercises they would like to review and highlight specific areas of exploration desired when completing their booking. The session can then be tailored to these needs.

Contemporary Dance: Floorwork Focus

For teachers who have studied both Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate syllabus. This course aims to provide a focus around the floorwork material; delving deeper into the exercises and looking at development through the levels. This will also offer a space for questions regarding accessibility and more advanced knowledge.

Contemporary Dance: Structured improvisation - Top tips and tools

This course will focus on how to prepare your students for the structured improvisation element of the examination, offering some tips and tools on how to approach this with your students and how you might incorporate this into your weekly classes. For those less experienced in improvisation work and those interested in learning how to integrate improvisation into class.

Imperial Classical Ballet: Pre-pointe and beginners Pointe work

This course has been carefully designed to deepen teachers' knowledge and understanding of how to prepare students for pointe work up to Intermediate level. Teachers will gain insight into the full toolkit required for the development of safe and secure pointe work.

Imperial Classical Ballet: Focus on the introduction of gender neutral optionality to Grade exams

The course will clearly outline the forthcoming changes to the Imperial Classical Ballet grade examinations that make set work inclusive for all students. The set exercises and enchaînements previously known as boys' set exercises will be taught with training ideas.

Imperial Classical Ballet: Licentiate essential learning

This course will cover essential learning for Parts 1 and 2 of the Licentiate exam. For Part 1, the content and ideas for the class will be discussed; delegates are encouraged to contribute ideas. For Part 2, there will be discussion of syllabus requirements and analysis, and exploration of ideas for free enchaînements, both for training specific vocabulary and for developing artistry and musicality.

Imperial Classical Ballet: Focus on primary and grade 1 with dances

This course will cover all set work from Primary Grade and Grade 1 and will include one set dance from each grade.

Modern Theatre: Grade 4 musical theatre progressions and amalgamations

An introduction to the new optional Grade 4 Musical Theatre Amalgamation through physical learning of the supportive Progression sequences and Amalgamation, with an insight into the influences that have inspired the three new Amalgamations. Discussion and analysis of the technique and artistry in connection to each individual progression as well as exploring alternative settings and how to combine and use these to develop further creativity.

Modern Theatre: Revision of grade 5 floor limbering and grade 6 floor sequence with analysis of connections to the new grade 4 and grade 5 floor sequences

In this online course you will revise the technical content of the grade 5 Floor Limbering & grade 6 Floor Sequence. We will reference training methods that develop strength, mobility and extension found in existing limbering exercises Options A&B, that underpin the weight transferences found in the New grade 4 & grade 5 Floor Sequences. The analysis of this work will impact your class delivery as you discover connections that enhance the development of movement which is essential for anyone teaching modern grades, DDE, Associate & Associate Diploma or Licentiate.

Modern Theatre: Grade 6 musical theatre progressions and amalgamations

An introduction to the new Alternative Grade 6 Musical Theatre Amalgamation through physical learning of the supportive Progression sequences and Amalgamation, with an insight into the influences that have inspired the three new Amalgamations. Discussion and analysis of the technique and artistry in connection to each individual progression as well as exploring alternative settings and how to combine and use these to develop further creativity.

Modern Theatre: Grade 5 musical theatre progressions and amalgamations

An introduction to the new optional Grade 5 Musical Theatre Amalgamation through physical learning of the supportive Progression sequences and Amalgamation, with an insight into the influences that have inspired the three new Amalgamations. Discussion and analysis of the technique and artistry in connection to each individual progression as well as exploring alternative settings and how to combine and use these to develop further creativity.

Tap Dance: The teaching and improving of Tap technique

On this course attendees will examine a selection of exercises and techniques throughout the syllabi to give teachers a deeper understanding of how to improve tap technique. Delegates will look at how to correct students and create better technique, making a teacher's life easier later on in the students' training. Time allowing, the course will also look at Shuffles, Riffs, Cramp Rolls, Paddles, Crawls, Elevated, Wings and Turns.

Tap Dance: Advanced 1 Technical exercises and rhythm to new optional playlist 

The course will focus on the technical work, faults and teaching of the technique required for Advanced 1 with a free music suggestions.

Tap Dance: Grade 6 (Full syllabus) to new optional playlist - to include the new alternative Unaccompanied Sequence

This course will allow you to refresh your knowledge of the entire Grade 6 Syllabus, go through some corrections and ask any questions that you may have. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn the new alternative Unaccompanied Sequence, as well as receiving a free music playlist as an alternative to the set music.

Cecchetti Classical Ballet: Licentiate study - Guidance on the development of technique and artistry through use of the Cecchetti principles

In this course, attendees will be provided with guidance on the development of technique and artistry through use of the Cecchetti principles. This is a participation session working with the Advanced 1 set syllabus for option 1 & 2 candidates, as well as offering guidance regarding the Licentiate examination class format and requirements.

Cecchetti Classical Ballet: Fellowship study - Understanding how the 'Days of the week' develop quality and dynamics in the Cecchetti Method of training

This course will focus on how the 'Days of the week' develop quality and dynamics in the Cecchetti Method of training. The session will incorporate the Advanced 2 & Diploma Syllabi for option 1 & 2 candidates. Attendees will also be provided with guidance on examination requirements and selecting a Diploma syllabus list.

Times and dates

Please note that all course dates and times are stated in British Summer Time (BST). Courses will include time for breaks; however, the exact timing of this break may vary from course to course.

Lecturers

In the instance of a change to availability, we may need to find an alternative lecturer (than the one originally scheduled) to lead a course. This will not affect the content covered in the course.

CPD hours

All hours stated next to each course refer to the earned CPD hours. This will be reflected on each certificate of attendance that you will receive.

Booking terms and conditions

 

Booking conditions

All fees must be paid in full, with cleared funds, before bookings close for the course. Delegates will only be provided with zoom details and have access to online courses once payment has been made.

Each participant (irrespective of whether they are sharing a studio or device) is required to pay for their place on the course. Therefore, it is your responsibility to ensure that you do not pass on the zoom login details or allow anybody that has not booked, to join the course on any device.

Cancellations must be made via email to coursebookings@istd.org 

  • For any cancellations made less than 10 days before the event, the ISTD will retain 50% of the total booking fee.
  • For any cancellations made less than 7 days before the event, the ISTD will retain 75% of the total booking fee.
  • For any cancellations made less than 4 days before the event, the ISTD will retain the total booking fee.

Under exceptional circumstances or where a doctor’s certificate is provided a full or partial refund may be given at the discretion of the Education and Training department.

In the event that delivery is affected by a local lockdown or any other force majeure, we will do our best to make alternative arrangements in order to ensure the course can go ahead. However, if this is not possible, delegates will be contacted and offered a refund or a credit note.

We cannot account for the strength of delegate internet connection and ask that each attendee check the connection before each course. In the case of loss of connection part-way through a course, refunds will not be given. Where possible, we may offer you an alternative course to attend. This will be at the discretion of the Director of Education.

Certificates of attendance will be sent to each delegate via email as a PDF document, after the CPD event has taken place. The CPD hours on the certificate will reflect the time attended by the participant with time deducted for late arrival or early departure from the session.

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing has the right to refuse bookings on the grounds of health and safety or if acceptance would contravene its Regulatory Authority Approval.

Course delegates are responsible for their own personal property and safety. Delegates must ensure that they follow the appropriate health and safety warnings, including:

  • Ensuring the space is environmentally equipped and safe (i.e. proper lighting and adequate temperature).
  • Having enough room to participate in the activity without there being any obvious risk of injury to the participant, to others, or risk of any damage to surrounding property.
  • Ensuring that the flooring in the room is appropriate for the activity to be undertaken.
  • That no other adult is observing during the course without the prior knowledge and permission of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

 The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing reserves the right to record any online CPD for the purpose of further training.

Filming /photography / recording of any content displayed or discussed during the online class is not permitted by any delegate.

All work displayed is the intellectual property of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and appointed lecturers. Recording the lectures would be a breach of copyright and anyone found doing so may be removed from the session and future bookings.

 

Consent and release
