Introducing Dance Proms
8 December 2010
Announcing a unique dance collaboration culminating in the first ever Dance Proms at the iconic Royal Albert Hall.
Three of the world’s leading dance examination boards, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA), and the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), have joined forces with the Royal Albert Hall to launch the Dance Proms, a national celebration of dance, dancers and dance teachers.
UK members from the three dance organisations will be invited to film and submit a short video online; featuring an original piece of choreography performed either as a solo, duet or group performance by their students in any dance genre. A variety of acts will then be selected by a respected panel of professionals to come together to perform live at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 13th November 2011.
This partnership brings together the three national dance training/awarding bodies, which between them have more than 15,000 members within the UK for the very first time, and the Royal Albert Hall, in a unique and exciting collaboration that will enable young dancers from all over the country to perform on the stage of one of the world’s most iconic and prestigious venues. The final performances will showcase the excellent work of the organisations and their teaching members to raise standards and increase participation in and appreciation of dance in the UK.
Our shared vision is to create a sustainable Dance Proms model which can be replicated and developed year on year into an exciting youth dance celebration using technology to enhance the learning experience and to seamlessly take dance from the webpage to the stage. Dance Proms will celebrate the passion and dedication of the thousands of dance teachers working in the private sector by shining a spotlight on the talent and potential of their students.
Our shared aims are to:
- provide a platform to celebrate all dance, dance students and dance teachers;
- inspire creativity and create learning, participation and performance opportunities;
- create opportunities for our respective members to engage with and benefit from every aspect of the project;
- reach new audiences for dance through local and national media.
Registration will open in January 2011. Teachers will then have until May 2011 to submit their videos online. Details on how to register, advice and guidance on how to film your dance piece and the full terms and conditions will be available soon at www.danceproms.co.uk.
