Lyn Richardson reports on a happy occasion for all in Kuala Lumpar
When asked if I would be part of the panel of adjudicators for the Imperial Classical Ballet Awards in Malaysia, there wasn’t a moment’s hesitation in responding with, “Yes please”. The venue is ideal and provides the right atmosphere for the competitors and audience alike. Held in the mini theatre at Lee Lee Lan’s studios, it is a very fitting tribute to the lady who started ISTD in Kuala Lumpur.
The children were delightful in their approach and worked so hard to give their best. Competitors came not only from Kuala Lumpur, but from Thailand and Japan too – such is the high regard for these Awards. The classes taken by Celia Johnson and Sadie Morgan were so beautifully arranged and sensitively taught. Their stage management of dealing with more than 30 eight-year-olds was a work of art too, born from years of experience. My fellow adjudicators, Frances Teoh and Carol Ainsworth, were a pleasure to work with and we were all of the same opinion as to who the winners should be.
Overall, this was a happy occasion for us all – competitors, their teachers, parents and no doubt, some very proud grandparents too. We all left smiling and that’s what it’s all about!
