One Dance UK’s CEO Andrew Hurst comments We are delighted to be opening nominations for the One Dance UK Awards on International Dance Day. We look forward to seeing a broad range of nominations from all disciplines and dance forms that truly reflects todays vibrant and diverse dance sector. There is no shortage of exceptional talent in the dance sector, and we have developed these awards to celebrate the unsung heroes of our sector, the remarkable contribution and commitment that is made by so many. We encourage everyone to take a moment to nominate those who inspire them and whose work is enriching the art forms – we want to empower the sector to give recognition to those who really deserve it.

The One Dance UK Awards are made possible by the generous sponsorship from individuals and organisations across the dance sector and we are enormously grateful to everyone who is supporting the One Dance UK Awards 2019. This year our sponsors include The ISTD, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, The Place, Marquee TV, Derrick Anderson and Akademi, who have given the following words of support for this event.

As London’s Creative Conservatoire, Trinity Laban is committed to innovation and to advancing the artform of dance. We are delighted to support this award at the One Dance Awards 2019, recognising innovative practice and celebrating dance artists who are pushing the boundaries and challenging conventions. Anthony Bowne, Principal Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance

Sponsoring the ‘Dance Personality of the Year’ award as The Place celebrates 50 years is a wonderful way to amplify our vision for “a world with more dance.” Powering imagination through dance requires outstanding energy, drive and commitment and we are deeply invested in raising the profile and perception of our life-enhancing, life-changing art form. Claire Connor, Chief Executive Officer, The Place

Increasingly, audiences want to be able to see their favourite dancers and dance companies online. As the UK’s leading on-demand platform for the arts, Marquee.TV is keen to encourage dance companies to develop their skills in this area and find new audiences online. Susannah Simons, Director of Partnerships, Marquee TV

I’ve been involved with dance in one form or another for almost 40 years. Over that time, I have seen a considerable growth in both interest and participation in dances rooted in the experiences of those from the African diaspora. Though I am no longer active in performance or choreography it gives me great pleasure to be able to support those who still are. With that in mind I salute those creative souls still plugging away and I’m happy to support financially to that end. Derrick Anderson

On the occasion of Akademi’s 40th-anniversary, we are delighted to include an award to recognise excellence in South Asian dance at the One Dance UK Awards 2019. This award is an endeavour to position South Asian dance alongside the key achievers from the wider dance sector in the UK. Mira Kaushik, Director, Akademi
