Street Dance & Commercial Hip Hop Syllabus

Street Dance & Commercial Hip Hop Syllabus

3 October 2010

Offering education and guidance for dance teachers in a new genre!

As many recent competitions, television shows and films such as So You Think You Can Dance and Step Up 3D have shown, Street Dance and Hip Hop is becoming an ever-increasingly popular form of dance with incredibly high standards, creativity and versatility.

Evolving outside of the traditional dance studio setting, the development of these styles has broadened from the early days of underground Hip Hop culture to the professionally choreographed routines in pop and R&B dance music videos.

The ISTD Disco, Freestyle & Rock ‘n’ Roll Faculty is delighted to announce a new syllabus that will include multiple styles spanning both Street Dance and Commercial Hip Hop – from old school styles such as locking, popping, and breaking to the newer styles of house and waacking.

We know there are many ISTD members who would like to start Street Dance & Commercial Hip Hop classes in their schools and this new syllabus offers a guide to teaching as well as giving them a chance to enter students for examinations. Amateur Medal Tests are available at the moment up to and including Gold Medal.
