Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella

What's it about? Matthew Bourne's interpretation of this classic fairy tale, has, at its heart, a true war-time romance. Set in London during the Second World War, a chance meeting results in a magical night for Cinderella and her dashing young RAF pilot, together just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz.

Birmingham Royal Ballet's The Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall

What's it about? The audience joins Clara in the Victorian setting of her family home. As midnight strikes, the Christmas tree grows and grows, and Clara’s nutcracker doll and his army of toy soldiers come to life. Clara is swept away through a winter wonderland of dancing snowflakes to the magical kingdom of the Sugar Plum Fairy. This magical ballet, with its ravishing Tchaikovsky score, is the quintessential Christmas treat for all the family.

The Little Match Girl

What's it about? The Little Match Girl is a timeless fable about kindness and helping others, which will enthral young children and the whole family alike. The unlikely heroine, in Arthur Pita's reimagining of this classic Hans Christian Andersen tale, is an impoverished young street girl who wanders the ever-darkening streets with just one final match to keep her warm on a cold Christmas Eve.

Scottish Ballet's The Nutcracker

What's it about? A "plush and sumptuous" variation of the classic Christmas tale, Tchaikovsky’s score is played by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra in this magical performance and partnered with exciting costumes and stunning set pieces.

The Snowman

What's it about? Based on the book by Raymond Briggs and the film directed by Dianne Jackson which has transported generations of children and their families into the wintery world of a boy and his magical snowman. Twinkling with festive spirit The Snowman is celebrating 20 years on the stage!
