Summary of Role

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is seeking to appoint a Deputy Lead Assessor to support the Level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) – Unit 2: Observing, Assisting and Teaching Practice. This is a self-employed, freelance role working remotely, supporting the Lead Assessor and the Quality Assurance department to ensure consistency, quality, and consistency of assessment decisions.

  • Role: Deputy Lead Assessor (DDE Unit 2: Observing, Assisting and Teaching Practice).
  • Contract type: Self-employed contract on freelance basis
  • Location: Remote
  • Hours: Variable; must be available during all assessment windows (three per academic year)
  • Rate: £41.69 hourly fee
  • Standardisation: Up to 3 days per year (mandatory; unpaid)

Key areas and responsibilities

  • Conduct and mark Final Teaching Assessments and moderate learner portfolio evidence in line with ISTD standards, assessment criteria and marking guidance.
  • Liaise professionally with Approved Dance Centres, Tutors and Learners to schedule assessments promptly.
  • Submit marks and detailed, evidence-based learner feedback reports to ISTD within agreed timescales.
  • Identify and report any irregularities, potential malpractice, or conflicts of interest.
  • Participate in annual professional development and standardisation activities (up to 3 days per year) and attend assessor standardisation meetings.
  • Respond promptly to Enquiries About Results (EAR) when requested by the Quality Assurance team.

Person specification

  • Must possess Greek language skills at mother tongue level, as well as fluent English with the ability to conduct written and spoken assessment in Greek and English.
  • Recognised Level 6 (or above) qualification in dance teaching or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum three years’ experience teaching dance (ideally including delivery of ISTD DDE Unit 2 and Unit 4).
  • High-level dance teaching qualification (e.g., ISTD Fellowship or Licentiate) or equivalent, plus a recognised degree in teaching dance.
  • Demonstrable experience assessing dance at Level 4 and above; internal/external verification experience and formal report writing are highly valued.
  • Excellent communication, strong time management, and confidence handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity in assessment.
  • Desirable: Experience lecturing/delivering Level 4+ qualifications; confidence with virtual.-
