Our Commitment to Safeguarding

We recognise the need to provide a safe and caring environment for children, young people and adults. We are committed to promoting the wellbeing of all who interact with us - our members, exam candidates, students, staff, contractors and volunteers.

We have set out our commitment in our safeguarding policy in accordance with statutory guidance. We are also part of the Dance School Safeguarding Working Group (DSSWG), which is a multi- agency group that provides educational resources to students, parents and schools and works with dance organisations to ensure their members follow good safeguarding practice.

Safeguarding guidance for parents/carers/guardians and teachers

If you have a concern regarding the safeguarding of a child or adult at risk, follow the public helpline links below for advice and guidance:

The Department for Education (DfE) has created guidance to:

  • Help providers of out-of-school settings (OOSS) understand best practice for creating a safe environment for children in their care
  • Give parents and carers confidence that their child is in a safe activity or learning environment

The full guidance document for providers of out-of-school settings can be read here.

A document giving advice for parents taking their children to out-of-school settings can be read here.

Our Teachers

We're committed to ensuring safeguarding is at the centre of all dance training. As ISTD members, our dance teachers and business owners:

  • Hold a current enhanced DBS (including the child barring list).
  • Have up to date knowledge of safeguarding in both children and adults at risk
  • Know their responsibilities and how to act.

If you have concerns about an ISTD member or a safeguarding query, please contact us directly:
