Journalism is so important to our democratic way of life, and the threats it faces on various fronts.

The campaign hopes to remind legislators of the essential role national and regional journalism has played in the country’s response to the pandemic, communicating vital information to the public and holding power to account.

From the perspective of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, the trusted news coverage of the pandemic has helped us keep our members informed of developments that are relevant to them and their livelihoods.

The Queen has praised “trusted and reliable” news organisations for playing a “vital” role in providing the public with information during the COVID-19 pandemic.

News media coverage of the horrific death of George Floyd sparked international outrage and has spurred many organisations, including our own, to examine ourselves and work towards overdue change to address deep-seated inequalities.
