Event highlights
The day began with the Lower Junior Category, where dancers as young as eight stepped onto the stage with courage and enthusiasm. Each performer delivered beautifully for our adjudicators, cheered on by proud parents and teachers in the audience.
These young dancers were wonderfully supported by our presenter, Sarah Wells, whose calm assurance and flawless organisation created a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Our sincere thanks also went to Jonnie Gait for his brilliant piano accompaniment, which added so much musical sensitivity to every performance.
In the late afternoon, we enjoyed the Senior Category class and performances. A special thank you went to Sue Lucas for leading the on-stage class and preparing the unset exercises, bringing clarity and positivity to the dancers’ experience.
Adjudicators and feedback
We were honoured to be joined by adjudicators Bethany Kingsley-Garner, Alison Jenner, and Mary Stassinopolous, along with Gillian Toogood and Judith Wilson, representing the Cecchetti Scholars. During the day, Gillian observed the Lower Junior, Junior, and Middle sections and awarded two special opportunities to talented dancers: the Direct Entry Award, offering a place to commence training with the Scholars in September 2025 without the usual audition process, and the Free of Charge Audition Award, granting a waiver for the Scholars’ audition fee in Spring/Summer 2026.
These awards, funded by the Cecchetti Society Trust, provided exceptional training and support to young dancers, complementing their regular classes with advanced tuition in Body Conditioning, Limbering, Pointe Work, Repertoire, and more.
Throughout the day, all adjudicators offered thoughtful, generous feedback to the dancers. Bethany especially commended the Senior competitors for their delightful Cecchetti port de bras and musical sensitivity.
Congratulations and thanks
Congratulations to all the dancers for performing to such a high standard, and to their teachers for the dedication and care that shone through every performance. The atmosphere both on stage and backstage was supportive, friendly, and truly joyous — a real celebration of the Cecchetti.
Finally, heartfelt thanks went to every member of the hardworking backstage team, whose generosity of time and spirit helped make the event such a success.
