Dance Exchange 2023 promises to be an exciting programme! Find out about the content of our lectures here and what you can expect throughout the day.
A warm welcome awaits you from our Faculty Committee.
There will be an opportunity to network with other teachers, ask any questions you may have about membership or our syllabi and If you are attending alone, please don’t worry, we have a “new teachers”/”first timers” area where you can sit with one of our committee and fellow teachers.

Warm-up/Cool Down with Anna Knowles
Start your day with an invigorating warm-up to ensure that you are ready for the day ahead.
Street/Hip Hop Bronze and Below (Breaking) with Isla Selley
Inspirational choreography for your classes and for use in exam work. Join experienced Street and Hip Hop teacher Isla and learn a Breaking routine that will be suitable for your beginner classes.
Creative Rock n Roll Choreography Using Syllabus Figures with Joanna Bevan
The rules are changing in our area competitions for 2024. We will be introducing set choreography for Under 8s, a solo event for Under 6s and for all other Bronze and Below categories, competitors will only be allowed to dance suitable syllabus figures without any basic actions or compound steps. This lecture will provide you with assistance in creating your new routines and our committee are here to assist you with any questions you may have. The routines will also be suitable to teach in class or for exams.
Advanced Slow with Katie Wilson
Learn a lyrical slow routine, suitable for advanced dancers. A chance to explore new choreographic ideas with ISTD Fellow Katie Wilson.
Under 8 Medallist Routines with Amy Leigh Sellers
Finding suitable and fun choreography for our younger dancers can sometimes be a challenge. Amy Leigh is a successful teacher with a large offering of under 8 dancers. She is highly experienced in producing suitable choreography. Join in this session to learn fun routines for our “stars of the future”.
Street Hip/Hop Advanced Locking Routine with Isla Selley
Performing a “pure style” at Gold Star level is mandatory. Learn an advanced Locking routine to take back to your studios to challenge your Street/Hip Hop dancers.
Dancer and Dance Teachers Wellbeing with Kim Rogers (non-participation lecture)
Wellbeing for both the dancer and dance teacher is of utmost importance to achieve the best that we can be. Kim Rogers of “The butterfly mind” is a mindset coach, mental health first aider, NLP practitioner and dance teacher with a passion for teaching mindset, mental and physical wellbeing to the younger generation through creative means. Take some time out to learn some useful tips to create a world of self-acceptance and empowerment in your classes.
How to Deal with Difficult Customers with Amanda Tapp (non-participation lecture)
Dealing with challenging customers can be difficult, frustrating and time consuming. In this insightful lecture, you'll find out about the tools and tips to handle these situations in a professional manner to achieve a positive outcome for you and your customers. Learn the secrets of a happy studio in this insightful lecture.
Silver Freestyle, Solo into Pairs with Zoe Avis
Finding the time to choreograph for every level and age group can be a real challenge! This lecture will provide you with challenging choreography for your advanced dancers, suitable for a Silver level examination. During this lecture, Zoe will also show you how to convert this to a pairs routine to use for fun in your classes or, to adapt for competition work.
Strength and Conditioning with Liam Reeder:
Liam is renowned for his approach to strength and conditioning and the journey that a dancer must take to achieve the technique required for more challenging moves. This lecture will take you through exercises that will assist you in training your dancers for optimum success both in competitions and in class work.
Set Dance presentation with Maria Howse
Our 2024 Set Dances are also suitable for medal test work as well as class work for choreography ideas. The DVD is a great way to assess the correct level when you are entering for examinations. This year, we will be exploring some of the more challenging choreography with an opportunity to learn some of the routines. Don’t forget if you attend Dance Exchange, you can also purchase the Set Dance videos at a reduced price.
Cool Down with Anna Knowles
Don’t leave without ensuring you are safe for your journey home. The Cool Down is a very important part of our classes and you will feel ready to leave our day on a real high after this effective cool down with Anna.

All hours stated next to each course refer to the earned CPD hours. This will be reflected on each certificate of attendance that you will receive.

No refunds are payable once a ticket has been purchased and payment received.
This event relies on a certain number of entries being received. If insufficient entries are received the event may not be viable and in this case entry fees will be returned.
