This August, the ISTD Summer Residential Programme welcomed 403 delegates to an immersive 9-day experience filled with learning, connection, and creativity. With 46 courses delivered by our expert lecturers, the programme offered a unique opportunity for teachers from across the globe to deepen their knowledge, refine their skills, and build lasting relationships.
Delegates joined us from the UK, Canada, Jersey, Belgium, Bahrain, the Netherlands, and the UAE, bringing a rich diversity of experience and enthusiasm to every session.
Programme highlights include
- Expert-led courses: Delegates explored new genres and refined their understanding of existing syllabi under the guidance of world-class lecturers.
- Evening activities: These informal events helped staff and delegates connect on a personal level, strengthening the sense of community. Members' Evening allowed members to come together and connect with HQ staff, share feedback, and meet our partners
We were also inspired by Angela Rippon, who joined us to celebrate the Let’s Dance campaign.
- International engagement: Our overseas members brought fresh perspectives and a contagious enthusiasm that enriched the entire programme.
Reflections from our delegates
Delegates left the Summer Residential Programme 2025 feeling inspired and prepared for the Autumn term. One participant described it as "An inspiring course that will help me broaden the way in which I approach my classes in the future." Other participants praised the impact of learning directly from top practitioners "A fantastic course, especially having the lead lecturer to come in and dance as well was truly inspirational. The main lecturers structure pace and clarity in delivering the course was very well planned out with excellent knowledge."
Reflections from the ISTD team
Our staff played a vital role in shaping the energy and success of the programme. Here’s what some of them had to say:
Karen, CPD & Events Coordinator, shared her excitement at finally meeting members in person:
“It was great to meet members face-to-face who I’ve been emailing for years. The individual mentoring and tailored training were invaluable - something that can only happen in person. The energy and enthusiasm were phenomenal, and it was heartwarming to see lifelong connections being formed.”
Lucy, CPD & Events Manager, highlighted the importance of bringing teachers together:
“Residential is so important as it provides an opportunity for teachers far and wide to connect. I loved hearing about their teaching journeys. The calibre of lecturers was outstanding - each one a master of their genre. Sitting in on a few courses, I witnessed the incredible engagement and knowledge-sharing. Priceless!”
Penny, CPD & Events Coordinator, reflected on the joy of being surrounded by music, dance, and community:
“It was wonderful to be in such a familiar setting. The lectures sparked inspiring conversations and a real sense of community. The love of dance shone through from everyone- including the occasional impromptu syllabus demonstration from the CPD team!”
Mavis, Head of CPD & Events, highlighted the joy that Summer Programme brings to the ISTD community:
“What a great 9 days we had at Residential Summer Programme 2025!
It was so inspiring to see everyone learning, dancing and connecting with teachers from around the world. Chichester holds a special place in the hearts of many ISTD teachers, so it was wonderful to see new friendships forming and memories being made, both for those returning and for teachers joining us for the first time. We had such knowledgeable lecturers delivering high calibre courses and providing teachers with so many strategies and opportunities to reignite the passion which inspired them to become teachers in the first place.”
Looking ahead
The Summer Residential Programme 2025 was a powerful reminder of the value of in-person connection, mentorship, and shared passion. As we look ahead to future events, we carry with us the energy, insights, and friendships forged this summer.
“We’re currently reviewing feedback and exploring future CPD opportunities. If you couldn’t join us this summer, don’t worry - other courses are available to book now across the UK, internationally, and online.” - Mavis
Thank you to everyone who made it so special – we can't wait to welcome you back in the future.
