Improving your students strength and flexibility.
Lecturer: Val Jones

Using Pilates based techniques this course will explore healthy movement for the dancer and the dance teacher. Exercises will be studied and used as a means of increasing awareness, thereby enhancing dance technique.

This workshop aims to give teachers practical examples of exercises to enhance their understanding of different physiques and how to train all dancers safely and effectively by exploring strategies for developing functional range of motion with precision and control using progressive exercises that scale easily across a range of abilities and levels.

This course is suitable for both modern theatre and classical ballet techniques and aims to be useful for DDE students and their tutors.

This will be a practical session where teachers can observe students for the first part of both the morning and afternoon sessions. Teachers will then be able to take part in the latter part of both sessions to can ask any questions about what they have observed in both of the student classes.

The morning session will focus on Grade 3 upwards in both Classical Ballet and Modern Theatre, and build towards the afternoon session which will focus towards the vocational levels.

Please bring an exercise/yoga mat, a small towel or two, and a theraband if you have one.

Her teaching experience covers baby classes to vocational level both in the UK and abroad. She has taught in rural and inner-city areas and in private and educational settings and is an enthusiastic advocate of CPD.
