Title: Street Dance Associate

The Street Dance Associate is an initial dance teaching qualification that provides UK and internationally based dance teachers an opportunity to increase their teaching skills, to a level that enables initial teachers to work professionally in practical settings, as qualified members of the ISTD. Breaking, Locking and Popping are the three Street Dance styles which form the basis of the Associate qualification.

 

 

Course Details

 

At the ISTD Academy, we offer the Street Dance Associate remotely, tailored to individuals seeking flexible study options with global accessibility. This short course is perfect for those wanting to teach Street Dance and achieve a recognised teaching qualification.

Completing the Street Dance Associate opens doors to a multitude of opportunities for advancing your teaching career. Successful candidates can apply to become Full Teaching Members of the ISTD and enter pupils for ISTD examinations in Dancesport genres (Street, DFR and Rock n Roll). Associate holders can open their dance schools as an ISTD Recognised Teacher and are able to work in private dance schools across the world. You’ll also have the chance to elevate your teaching skills to a higher level by progressing to the ISTD’s Level 6 Diploma in Dance Pedagogy after gaining teaching experience

 

 

Entry Requirements

 

Essential

  • Practical dance knowledge and experience
  • Age 18+

Beneficial

  • Experience in Hip Hop, Street, and/or Commercial 
  • Some assisting and/or teaching experience is recommended prior to entering for the Associate Examination.

Recommended

Attend a weekly class in any street dance style 

 

 

 

How To Apply

  • Complete the online application form, link here 
  • Email supporting documents to academyinfo@istdacademy.org
  • Video Application – submit a recording of your technical demonstration for review. The recording should be of yourself performing a 45-second routine of your own choreography in street, modern, or contemporary style. 
  • Following review, candidates will be invited to attend an interview with the Academy Programme Manager.
