Applications are open for the Sue Passmore Award: Broadening Access to Dance

ISTD is pleased to announce that applications for the Sue Passmore Award: Broadening Access to Dance are now open.

Created in honour of former ISTD Chair and Trustee Sue Passmore, the award supports innovative projects that introduce dance to new communities, remove barriers to participation and create meaningful opportunities for people to experience the benefits of dance.

For the 2026/27 application round, up to two awards of up to £2,000 each are available to support projects that broaden access to dance in local communities around the world.

Honouring Sue Passmore's commitment

Sue Passmore is a passionate advocate for dance education and inclusion, with a long association with ISTD. This award celebrates her commitment to ensuring that dance remains accessible to everyone, regardless of background, experience or circumstance.

The award supports projects that create opportunities for participation, encourage engagement with dance and help reach people who may not otherwise have access to dance activities.

Supporting projects that make a difference

ISTD members are invited to apply for funding to support creative and practical projects that broaden access to dance.

Projects might:

• Introduce dance to people who have never participated before
• Support communities that face barriers to participation
• Take place in new or unexpected settings
• Engage underrepresented groups
• Build partnerships with community organisations, schools, charities or arts groups
• Create opportunities that can continue beyond the initial funding period

Successful projects should demonstrate a clear vision, realistic planning and the potential to create a lasting impact.

Previous recipients

Over recent years, recipients of the Sue Passmore Award have used funding to deliver inspiring projects that have connected new communities with dance and created opportunities for people to participate, develop confidence and experience the benefits of movement.

• Applications opened: 10 August 2026, 12:00 BST
• Applications close: 20 October 2026, 12:00 BST
• Shortlisting period: 20 October to 27 November 2026
• Outcomes shared by: 15 December 2026
