29 October 2026
“What a weekend. The ISTD DFR Grand Finals 2026 celebrated the very best of Disco Freestyle, Rock’n’Roll and Street Dance, with performances from dancers of all ages and abilities.
The standard of dancing was exceptional. Across the weekend, dancers showed talent, technique and determination, reflecting not only their own hard work but also the dedication of their teachers.
Across Grades, Teams, Freestyle Solos, Street Solos, Crews, Set Dance, Adapted Dance, Rock’n’Roll and Freestyle Pairs, every section brought its own energy to the floor.”
An inspirational and inclusive weekend
“A personal highlight for me was the Adapted Dance section. The room was full of joy, encouragement and togetherness. For a moment, it felt less like a competition and more like a shared celebration of dance and its power to bring people together.
I was also struck by the sense of community among our dance teachers. There was real warmth throughout the weekend, with teachers sharing encouragement, conversation and support while celebrating everything their dancers had achieved.
That combination of rising standards on the floor and stronger connections between schools made this year’s event feel particularly special.
As a member of the ISTD DFR committee, I see first-hand how much work goes into an event of this scale. The planning begins long before the first dancer steps onto the floor. I am proud to work alongside such a committed team, and I would like to thank my fellow committee members, officials, adjudicators and everyone who helped make the weekend possible. We were also delighted to welcome ISTD President Shirley Ballas on Sunday, making the weekend even more special as we celebrated our dancers and their achievements.
Congratulations to every dancer who qualified and competed, and to the teachers and families who supported them. Whatever the result, reaching the Grand Finals is an achievement to be proud of.”
More than medals and trophies
“DFR Grand Finals is about far more than medals and trophies. They give dancers the chance to share what they have worked for, build confidence and make lasting memories. They also give teachers a moment to recognise their pupils’ progress and families the joy of watching them perform.
To any dancer hoping to compete in the future: keep working, enjoy the process and believe in your progress. The confidence, friendships and memories you gain along the way matter just as much as the result.”
